林语堂英译《道德经》之“三维”转换研究

Study on “Three Dimensional” Transplantation of Lin Yutang's English Version of Tao Te Ching

以生态翻译学为理论视角,对林语堂英译《道德经》进行"三维"转换研究。林语堂出于自身对老庄哲学的喜好及西方社会的需要选择翻译《道德经》。从林语堂的"非字译""需传神"的"忠实"翻译原则探究语言维的转换,结合林语堂自身对道家文化的理解探究文化维的转换,从提供西方读者以精神养分探究交际维的转换,发现林译《道德经》较好地实现了"三维"转换,从而译出了较高"整合适应选择度"的译文,促进了《道德经》在西方的传播。

This paper is to employ the Eco-translatology theory to explore the ＂three dimensional＂ trans- plantation of Lin Yutang＇s English Version of Tao Te Ching, Out of his own deep love for Tao Te Ching, Lin Yutang translated it to meet the needs of the western society. This paper explores the version in linguistie dimension based on Lin＇s ＂true＂ translation principle of ＂not word-for-word translation＂ and ＂conveying the spirit of the source text＂, studies the version in cultural dimension, taking Lin＇s own understanding of Taoism into consideration and investigates the version in communicative dimension, keeping Lin＇s translation purpose of providing western readers with eastern spiritual nutrients,in mind. It finds that Lin＇s achieved a successful ＂three dimensional＂ transplantation in his English version and made Tao Te Ching spread to western world at a high ＂holistic degree of adaptation and selection＂.
