The active layer of OSCs generally contains two organic semiconductors: an electron donor and an electron acceptor. The donor and acceptor make nanoscale phase separation to allow efficient exciton dissociation and also form a three-dimensional (3D) passage to rapidly transfer free charge carriers to respective electrodes.
