Russian fine art at the dawn of the 20th century, a world heritage treasure, underwent significant transformation in terms of the artistic creation of the traditional scholastic Russian school and realism. The shock brought by western European artistic thoughts and the drastic social change from within ignited Russian artists＇ enthusiastic pursuit for modernity. The October Revolution rekindled their expectation for a promising future, represented by the advent of such new avant-garde phenomena as symbolism, futurism, etc.
