On the Objectivity of History

坚持历史唯物主义必须首先坚持历史的客观性。为此,必须正确认识历史的客观性与历史认识的间接性、历史顺向运动与历史研究的逆向思维以及历史事实与历史文本之间的关系,解决历史研究中面临的理论矛盾。要继承中国传统文化的优良传统,有分析有批判地对待西方的历史哲学和后现代主义的史学理论,推进马克思主义历史理论的中国化和当代化,从而丰富和发展中国特色的历史理论。

To insist on historical materialism we must first adhere to the objectivity of history. Therefore, to solve the theo- retical contradictions in historical research, we must correctly understand the relationship between the objectivity of history and the indirectness of historical understanding, the historical forward movement and reverse thinking of historical research, and the historical fact and historical text. In order to enrich and develop the historical theories with Chinese characteristics, we must inherit the fine tradition of Chinese traditional culture, critically analyze the western historical philosophy and post- modernist historiography theories, and advance the sinicization and modernization of the Marxist historical theories.
