摘要 Aberrant expression of lysosomal cysteine proteinases(cathepsins)leads to abnormal proteolytic processing of extracellular matrix proteins. This in turn promotes invasion, migration and metastasis of tumor cells(Nomura and Katunuma,2005).Cystatins are natural inhibitors of cathepsins. Therefore, dysregulated expression of cystatins and the consequent alteration in the cathepsin:cystatin ratio are likely to play an important role in malignant progression of tumors.
