The establishment of leaf dorsoventral（adaxial-abaxial）polarity conditions flattening of the leaf,an essential feature of land plants that optimizes light absorbance.Leaf primordia initiate from peripheral zone（PZ）at the flank of the shoot apical meristem（SAM）,which maintains stem cells in the shoot apex.
