Dong Biwu5 s family tradition is of enriched connotation, distinct characteristics and profound influ-ence. Its basic connotation consists of the following ： the conception of learning of being determined to learn and passing on the tradition of learning ; the conception of behaving of being plain, honest, courageous, determined, modest and prudent; the conception of living of being diligent and thrifty and having a passion for labor; the con- ception of teaching children of containing love in education and combining strictness and amiability ; and the con-ception of governing family of strictly obeying rules and never seeking personal privileges. This red family tradi-tion is characterized by the progressiveness of ideal piloting, the sublimity of keeping the people in heart, the in- tegration of family tradition and party spirit, the time feature of succession and development, and the unity of ver-bal instruction and personal example. Under the new historical conditions,Dong Biwu＊ s family tradition still has an important practical significance and contemporary value.
