The ZCB Bamboo Pavilion is a public event space built for the Construction Industry Council's Zero Carbon Building (ZCB) in the summer of 2015 in Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong. It is a four-storey-high long-span bending-active bamboo grid shell structure with a carbon footprint of approximately 350m2 and a seating capacity of 200 people. Stands of bamboo are hand-tied together using common Cantonese scaffolding techniques to form the frame of this biomorphic structure. Three hollow columns rest on three circular concrete footings brightly lit from inside. A tailor-made white tensile fabric is stretched over the structure, completing this geometrically complex pavilion. The use of bamboo, a widely available and renewable natural resources in Asia.
