Does an ideal city provide its citizens with comfortable environment? As an iconic city, no capital has received more praise and criticism than Brasilia. On one hand, some complained its extremely strict planning, lack of pedestrian-scale streets, identical super block, and so on; on the other hand, Brasilia has been granted UNESCO World Heritage site, the only contemporary project in the world. As a milestone in the history of urban planning, Brasilia preserves the concept of modernism in urban scale and the Brazilian Dream. Taking it as an exploration of modern livable city, the designers Costa and Niemeyer take pride in the highly organized zoning, and avant-garde architecture design full of symbolic meanings to present the idea of modernism at urban livings, the aesthetics of design and humanistic concern.
