Barry Lopez, a famous contemporary American naturalist, has won the National Book Award for hiswork on The Arctic Dream, and became a representative of American natural prose in the 1980s. In The ArcticDream, Lopez describes the wonders he saw in the Arctic, the fresh experience, the careful observation of the Arc-tic and the resonance of the Arctic. His descriptions on the sea, ice, sky, land and wild lives of his vision are bril-liant. The Arctic Dream contains a wealth of ecological awareness. He praised the Eskimo＇ s way of life, their cul-ture, and their attitude toward life which is only to live a pleasant life, and also criticized the westerners＇ desire formaterials. In addition, he emphasized the necessary role of spirit in human life and advocated that modern peopleshould value their spiritual growth and spiritual prosperity.
