仓央嘉措诗歌英译原则探析

A Probe into the Principles of Translating Tsangyang Gyatso's Poems into English

六世达赖喇嘛仓央嘉措的诗作流传甚广,经久不衰。他既是藏传佛教中至高至尊的活佛,又是才高情深的诗人。他是极具传奇色彩的历史人物,其命运扑朔迷离,令人感慨。他去世已有三百多年,今天仍有许多学者、诗人及翻译家致力于对其作品的研究。他的诗被译成多种文字,英文本就有十几个。不同版本展示了不同译者的理解与表达。究竟什么原则更能指导译者完美呈现诗人的情感?我们提出三个原则:保真、求善、存美。保真即自然而忠实于原文;求善即善待作者并尊重其风格;存美即慎重转换、保留原作之美。坚持这三个原则旨在提高翻译质量,使读者领悟诗的美和诗人的情,以优质的翻译传递人类美好情感,以共同叙事和情感共鸣沟通人心,推动藏文化的传播与共享,为其注入新的活力,推进中华文化与世界文化的融合。

Dalai Lama VI---Tsangyang Gyatso＇s poems were widely circulated and still enjoy popularity. He was an influential living Buddha（Renpoche） in Tibetan Buddhism,a talented and passionate poet,also a legendary historical figure whose fate was complicated and confusing. He has been dead for over three centuries but still there are many scholars,poets and translators devoted to the study of his works. His poems have been translated into many languages and there over a dozen English versions. Different versions display different understanding and rendering of different translators. Then what principles can guide translators to present the poet＇s feeling more completely？We put forward three principles,namely,retaining truth,seeking goodness and preserving beauty.To retain truth is to be natural and faithful to the source text;to seek goodness is to be kind to the author and respect his style;to preserve beauty is to be cautious when transforming and to keep the beauty of the source text. By adhering to these three principles,we aim to improve the quality of translation,to make the reader perceive and understand the beauty and emotion of the poet,to convey good human feeling with fine-quality translation,to promote the exchange of heart of people all over the world with common narrating and emotional resonance,to promote the spread and sharing of the Tibetan culture,to inject it with new vitality and promote the fusion of Chinese culture with the world culture.
