赵嘏是晚唐一位专攻七律的诗人,其七言律诗多为拗体之作,对仗工整,多用虚字衔接意象。其七律风格主要有瑰奇绚丽和清空幽美两大类型,二者在抒发情感的真挚方面又有其内在统一性。他的一些七律诗作带有盛唐诗歌昂扬阔大的格调,同时他还将诗和史结合起来,用七律的形式创作《读史编年诗》。

Zhao Gu is one of great poets in the Tang Dynasty,specializing in seven-character poem.Although many of his seven-character poems are not strictly conformed to normal rhythm,but the poetic language is concise and elegant,embodying an internal relations in the aspects of emotions expressing and a surpassingly beautiful sense.Some of his seven-character poems carry the splendid style of the prosperous Tang poetry,and at the same time,he combines poetry with history to create the Readingchronicle poems.
