清末岭南革命报刊风起云涌,致力于在下层社会传播革命思想。在报刊传播实际中,阅报所、演讲等中介形式推进了在识字率极低的下层社会进行的报刊推广。一方面,报刊阅读改变了下层社会获取知识与信息的渠道,是清末知识阶层"启蒙"运动的主要方式之一;另一方面,岭南革命报刊与政党及政治关系密切,阅报活动也是革命思想传播的手段。革命思想从报人到下民、从革命理想到武装起义,各种阅报活动在下层社会的普及推广起到了强大的"鼓吹"之力。
