Based on a Buddhist outlook on life, Daisaku Ikeda probes into the world civilization and points out that the core problem of the contemporary world is still “the motif of mankind.” He applies this stance to his intellectual construct of higher education. First, the fundamental objective of higher education is human education that may open up the road of self-actualization. Second, the goal of higher education is to create value, and to achieve peace and happiness of mankind. Third, the historical missions of higher education are instruction and research. Fourth, the educational principle of higher education is to render “human study” as the starting point of integrating various branches of learning. Fifth, the innovative design of higher education consists in exploring pathways of value creation via interaction between human and environment. These ideas refect that Daisaku Ikeda puts people frst and focuses on soul education, which provides a reference for current higher education reform and development.
