口译实务中的“多维忠实/诚观”

A Multi-dimensional View on Fidelity in Interpreting

本文通过对口译实务案例的分析,提出口译活动中的“多维忠实/诚观”。文章指出,在进行口译活动时,译员处在由活动主办方、讲话人、听众和其他现场人员所共同构成的“生态系统”中,因此译员的忠实/诚对象应不仅限于“原文”,而是具有多元向度。此外,译员还有可能要“忠实/诚”于讲话人所传递的信息、活动主办方的要求、听众需求、接受方文化,乃至译员自身。文章最后指出,译员应充分考虑沟通目标,依据具体情境做出对“忠实/诚”对象的判断。

This paper puts forward a multi-dimensional view onfidelity for interpreting practitioners on the basis of a case analysis. It first points out that a working interpreter must navigate the dynamics among the event organizers, speakers, audience and other on-site personnel. Therefore, the interpreter must balance fidelity to- wards the source text, the information conveyed, the organizers＇ requirements, the audience ＇ s demand, the receivers＇ culture, and even his/her own priorities as an interpreter. This paper argues that the interpreter should make decisions onfidelity by taking the specific context and communicative goals into account.
