Objective : To explore the identity of the kidney essence and stem cells by the kidney essence in TCM theo- ry and stem cells on the different interpretation of life phenomenon to provide a new guidance and theoretical basis for the treatment of diseases by traditional Chinese medicine. Methods: Through the related research about stem cells and kidney essence in recent years, we explored their similarity in the origin of life, physiological function and the body process and made the identity of stem cells and kidney essence, and combined the research of removing damaged tissue and generating new tissue on the basis of generating new level tissue activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis on animal experiment by the research group . We further illustrated that the stem cells are the foundation of the cell biology and existence form of congenital essence, marrow essence and essence of Zangfu - organs at the cell level. Based on the iden- tity cognition of stem cell and kidney essence, we put forward the new theory of kidney property of promoting blood circu- lation and removing blood stasis. Conclusions : Making the identity of stem cells and kidney essence can provide new ideas for the research on basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine.
