James Joyce used many symbols in his Dubliners,which is one of his important writing techniques throughout his writing career. It is believed that the Biblical symbols,such as ＂Holy Grail ＂,＂Eve＂,＂Angel Gabriel and Michael＂,are used to express his feelings toward his hometown Dublin from the romantic,realistic and modern perspective respectively,reflecting his consciousness of national awakening and efforts of national rejuvenation.
