The 1895-1898 Reform and the Construction of Modern State in the Late 19th Century

从全球视角来看,1895—1898年的维新运动与19世纪末世界各地的现代化进程大体相似。维新运动的主张,政治上,建立民主政治的同时具有保守主义的局限;经济上,近代化和国家行政改革推动了经济的发展;文化上,民族主义成为凝聚现代国家的意识形态。这些均与19世纪末世界各地现代国家构建的共同特点相符合,从而彰显出维新运动的世界意义。维新运动堪称中国现代国家构建的初创期,不仅为之后的百年发展提供了积极的能动力,亦可为当今中国引领全球化发展提供重要的理论与实践借鉴。

In the perspective of globalization, the 1895-1898 Reform and modernization drive all over the world in the late 19th century are similar. According to the Reform, the democratic politics with conserva- tism was established in politics ; the modernization and the reform of the State administration promoted the development of the economy in economy; nationalism became the ideology of agglomerating the modern country, thus highlighting the world significance of this Reform. The 1895-1898 Reform not only provides the positive energy for the development in the next one hundred years but also provides important theory and practice for the development of globalization in China.
