Since its recognition as an independent discipline in the twentieth century, language teaching has gained momentous force through the rapid emergence and development of various linguistic theories in one way or another in tandem. This essay briefly discusses some major linguistic theories that contribute most to modern language teaching. It tells us to teach them how to fish, rather than give them a fish a day.
