Sentence patterns are ways of making sentences which derive from many specific sentences. They function as frame, collocation, consistency and so on. Nowadays, more and more scholars attach great importance to the study of sentence patterns. The teaching of sentence patterns has become an important teaching method. The paper introduces the history of Japanese sentence pattern study and deals with the positive role sentence patterns play in the teaching of Japanese language at home.
