The earliest immigrants in Taiwan's aboriginal areas in the Qing Dynasty were businessmen who traded there, and then they were called Fange. They learned the aboriginal language, carried salt, cloth, tea and other goods to trade with the aboriginals, and gradually settled down there. As the earliest immigrants in the aboriginal areas, they engaged in land reclamation activities with the aboriginals, and sometimes they even led aboriginals out of the mountains to fight with Han people. In addition,as the middlemen that crossed the bi-linguistic gap and connected the cultures of Han and the aboriginals, the immigrants met the demand of the aboriginals for knowing the Han people's means of producing and living, and therefore received welcome and respect from the aboriginals. At the crossroads of hunting civilization and farming civilization, the immigrants changed the aboriginals' life and constructed an engagement pattern of Han and foreign countries different from that of the government, which reflected the objective fact of the pluralistic unity of the Chinese nation.
