Passion and death are two important themes throughout Stefan Zweig' s literary creation. The characters in Zweig' s novels, who suffered severely from the overwhelming psychological passion, usually ended up in death as' a way of freeing themselves from the domination of passion in their struggles for the good and beautiful side of human nature. In the biographies of the free writers whom he considered to be spiritually connected with him, Zweig wrote a touching elegy on the common destiny Of Holderlin (荷尔德林) , Kleist (克莱斯特) and Nietzsche (尼采), who burned and sacrificed themselves in their boiling passion for the eternal and infinite. Zweig endowed the destruction of the three literary giants with the great significance of insistent pursuit for timeless and absolute meanings. As for Zweig himself, in order to prevent his heart from being twisted and his humanistic faith from being damaged in the evil passion of the war, he .chose to die freely. His suicide was therefore an act of freedom and martyrdom for great humanity' s ideal and manifesto.
