The comparative study of the formation mechanism of urban agglomeration is a hot topic in the study of the urban agglomeration, which can be used to find the factors that influence the formation and development of urban agglomeration. Existing research is given priority to with qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis that are relatively scarce. Changsha Zhuzhou Xiangtan Urban agglomeration and Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration are taken as the research object. There are three basic conclusions from the perspective similarity. The Changsha Zhuzhou Xiangtan urban agglomeration and the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration are both the result of the interaction of the endogenous and exogenous variables, but the influence of the endogenous variables on the formation and development of urban agglomerations is stronger than that of exogenous variables. The power of globalization is a key factor in the formation of urban agglomeration. The impact of traffic factors on the development of the urban agglomeration is gradually decreasing. There are two basic conclusions from the perspective differences. The Changsha Zhuzhou Xiangtan urban agglomeration has the characteristics of the top down, while the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration has the characteristics of bottom-up. The influence of regional factors on the development of Changsha Zhuzhou Xiangtan urban agglomeration is strengthening, and the impact on the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration is weakening.
