《礼书通故》是黄以周最重要的礼学著作,也是清代礼学研究最重要的成果之一。黄以周治礼以实事求是为宗旨,以经时济世为追求。黄以周考礼议礼,却没有沉溺于故实考订,而是关注现实,心系时俗,褒贬善恶。长期的礼学思想研究,使得黄以周对制礼之事亦有冲动,不时为古人之伦理窘境提供出路,为制礼提供理据。

General History of Ritual Books is one of Huang Yizhou＇s important works on ritual study. It is also one of the major achievements of ritual studies in the Qing Dynasty. Huang Yizhou administrated rituals with an aim to seek truth from facts and tried to benefit the mankind as well. Huang Yizhou＇s study of rituals attends to the reality, cares about the prevalent custom of the time and appraises good, rather than indulge in the musty old books. Long time＇s study of ritual thought enables Huang Yizhou not only to have the impulsion to administrate the rituals but also to find outlet for the ethics predicaments of the ancients so as to supply motivations for the practice of rituals.
