Seirei Shū, a collection of Kūkai’s writings on Buddhist studies, represents one of the highest literary achievements of Kanshi in ancient Japan, marking an essential text in studying the history of cultural exchange between China and Japan. In this paper, the author conducts a philological study on its esoteric terms, including middle-ancient terms, ancient classics terms,Buddhist scripture terms and colloquial terms.
