Neutrophils, as important parts of the innate immunity, plays important roles in the process of resistance to pathogens and maintaining the homestasis of respiratory system. Once the pathogen invades the lung, neutrophils are activated rapidly and involved in inflammation, which is a complex pathophysiological process with many factors involved. This article reviews the main factors involved.
