From "Zero" to One: A Review and Prospect of the Study of the History of Chinese Communication Thought

本文作者以个人亲历回顾了四十年来中国传播思想史研究的起点和过程,对中国大陆和港台学者们共同探索中华传播理论的脉络和方法进行了梳理,提出要超越西方传播学的逻辑框架,以中华民族在漫长历史上的交流实践以及在交流实践过程中形成的观念和心态结构作为中国传播思想史研究的中心问题。

Proceeding from my personal experience, I review how the study of the history of Chinese communication thought started and evolved for the past forty years. I call into focus how scholars from China Mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan have jointly explored the lineage of Chinese communication thought. I argue that we must go beyond the logical framework of Western communication studies and center on Chinese people＇s communication practice and on their ideas and mental structures springing from that cultural-specific communication practice.
