英语流散作家林玉玲是具有身份文化间性的作家,她的小说《秋千妹妹》里的三位华裔马来西亚姊妹主人公,迫于华裔父权的影响,漂泊于马来西亚和美国之间,处于文化间性当中。细读小说文本,三姊妹在美国语境下依旧没有摆脱华裔父权思想,最终因为采取了"流动"、"飞翔"和"摇摆"的生存策略,获得了自我。从某种意义上来说,她们是流散者中成功的范例。
As a diasporic Asian-American writer grappling with her intercultural identity, Shirley Geok-lin Lim in her novel Sister Swing portrays three Chinese Malaysian sisters who find themselves wandering between Malaysian and American cultures. Feeling lost in the American culture, the three sisters fail to emancipate themselves from Chinese patriarchy at first, but later choose mobility, flight and swing as survival strategies and eventually achieve self-realization. In a sense, they are successful examples among the diaspora.
