In Is Shakespeare Any Good: And Other Questions on How to Evaluate Literature, Richard Bradford re-examines the history of modern and contemporary literary criticism and education, re-defines the nature of literary modernism as a literary movement, and re-evaluates its impact on literature, pointing out that the absence of evaluation, a main feature of present-day literary criticism, exerts a negative impact on the development of literature and its criticism. The monograph offers a new perspective on the status quo of literary criticism, and although published before the 2016 Nobel Prize of Literature "scandal", Bradford's work functions as a useful model for analyzing the making of Bob Dylan's Nobel Prize.
