C5H5) SmCl2(THF)3 was obtained by reacting SmCl3 ( THF)(3. 2) with equimolar of Na(C5H5) in THF at room temperature. It crystallized from THF in the space group P21/n with a=7. 841 (2),b= 17.190(5) ,c= 15. 254(1) A,β= 95. 543 (8)°, V= 2064. 4(5) A3, Z= 4, C(17)H(29)Cl2O3Sm,Mr=502. 67 , Dc= 1.631 g/cm ̄3, μ(Mo-Kα) =31. 53 cm-1, F(OOO)= 1004. Least-squares refinement led to a value for the conventional R index of 0. 040 for 3054 observed reflections having I】3σ(I). Sm3+ is coordinated by an η5-C5H5 ligand, two chlorine and three THF oxygen atoms, forming a pseudo-octahedral geometry. It is isostructural with (C5H5)LnCl2 (THF)3(Ln = Nd, Er, Yb).
