On the Purpose of Editing the Anthology

明代张溥在《昭明集题辞》中说:"后人见其《选》,即可知其志。"《文选》是萧统主编的体大虑深的泛文学总集,不仅反映了萧统的思想与文评观念,也反映了萧统"化成天下"、巩固统治、匡正文坛、流芳千古的编撰目的。对《文选》编撰意图的研究,能够深化对萧统的了解以及对《文选》成书、选录标准等多方面的研究。

Zhang Fu in Ming Dynasty said in the Inscription of the Collection of Zhaoming, “Later generations could understand Xiao Tong’s thoughts when they read the Book.” The Anthology edited by Xiao Tong is a rich and deep collection of literature, which reflects not only Xiao Tong’s thoughts and literary criticism, but also his purpose of culturing the world, consolidating the realm, correcting the literary world and becoming famous forever. By studying the purpose of editing the Anthology, we could deepen the understanding of Xiao Tong and the study of the process of selecting and editing of the book.
