Upholding the Principle of Faithfulness while Taking Other Factors into Consideration in Translation: A Case Study of the Translation of the 19th CPC National Congress Documents

以十九大报告的中英翻译为例探讨了政治文献翻译过程中中文理解的出发点和英文转化时可行的方法。中央文献翻译首先要做到精准,要在准确、深刻理解中文的基础上坚持以我为主的原则,坚守中国的政治立场,坚持传播中国文化,忠实传达原文的内涵和精神实质,体现原文的风格,同时又要采用兼收并蓄的翻译策略,将保留中文的原汁原味与保证译文符合外文表达习惯结合起来,兼顾时代的发展和国情的变化,最终目的是忠实而创造性地实现两种语言之间的转化,让译文更好地向外国读者传情达意。

This paper takes of the Communist Party of China as an example to explores the starting point and possible approaches in the translation of Chinese political documents based on the translation of the 19th CPC National Congress documents.Accuracy always comes first in the translation of CPC documents.On the basis of accurately and fully understanding the source text,the translator should adhere to the principle of remain faithful in terms of China’s political stand,Chinese culture,and the meaning and style of the Chinese text.Meanwhile,the translator should take other factors into consideration to consider the differences between languages,bear in mind the target readers,and ensure the translation to keep up with the changes of the times and the Chinese context.Only in this way can the translation achieves faithful and creative transfer of not only textual meaning,but also culture and values to its targeted audience.
