As one of the most common causes of bladder outlet obstruction in infants, posterior urethral valve (PUV) impairs renal and bladder functions and leads to end-stage renal disease in children. After primary valve ablation, many PUV patients develop bladder dysfunction and renal impairment. It remains challenging to predict the long-term outcomes. In recent years, the effects of pop-off mechanisms on renal fuhction have been debated. The aim of this review is to offer a general overview.
