In his letter to Hegel, Schelling had explicitly denied the personality of the absolute. In his view, God with personality would be something restricted rather than an absolute being. Schelling's conclusion infuriated Jacobi, a romantic philosopher. On the one hand, Jacobi pointed out that God is a living being with personality; otherwise it would inevitably lead to the misunderstanding of the divine or even atheism. On the other hand, he further stated the biggest problem of Shelling's philosophy is that it fails to distinguish between the reason and the basis, which results in the wrong understanding of the absolute.
