David J Thouless, F Duncan M Haldane and J Michael Kosterlitz won the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physics. Prizes are primarily due to groundbreaking work on topological phase transitions and material topologies. Some of the important properties of many physical systems that are directly related to the topology have recently been discovered and can be classified using topological invariants to explain some of the problems previously un- explained by physics. In this area of research, great progress has now been made. In order to design new systems, and new materials, it allows us to understand the physical system from a different point of view, topologically, which can help in the realization of quantum computers. This article explores the topology in cold atomic systems.
