众所周知,DVD光存储系统自诞生以来,其速 度就一直在不断提升。在8X、12X刻录机被推向市场 之后不久,很快便出现了更高倍速的DVD刻录机。 2004年底．刻录机生产厂商正式推出了第一台16X的 DVD刻录机。但是,尽管刻录机的速度一直在飞速提 升,高倍速DVD可录光盘的发展却相对缓慢。

The speed spiral in the area of the DVD Recordable mediums keeps turning. Whilst the first 16x DVD recorders were available from the end of 2004, the data carriers actually suitable for recording at this speed were not yet to hand. This is due to the continuing high demands which are imposed on the mediums and the insufficient proving of suitable dyes and production processes. In the context of the latest speed increase one wonders what advantages result from this for the end-user and what requirements must be met by the disc.
