西方翻译研究的传统、现代与后现代:区别、对立、共存

Three Distinct Historico-Cultural Formations of TS and Their Contentious yet Mutually Supportive Coexistence

国内的翻译研究鲜有将西方翻译理论置于传统、现代和后现代框架下加以同时考察。本文尝试以关键词来厘清传统、现代、后现代翻译研究各自的特点,尤其突出现代描写翻译研究与传统翻译研究的区别、与后现代翻译研究之间的对立,浅析三者的理论意义、基本冲突以及彼此的调和与共存,以期为如何在翻译实践、翻译理解和翻译思考层面更好地理解和利用西方翻译理论提供启示。

Little domestic research has been done on the way western translation theories have been framed within three distinct historico-cultural formations, namely, the traditional, the modern and the postmodern one. This paper undertakes to address this neglect by comparing the key words and concepts associated respectively with the trio. Focusing on how Toury's DTS model differs from the traditional conception of translation on the one hand and conflicts with the post-modern approach to TS on the other, the paper discusses each approach's theoretical strength, stressing the complementary and mutually supportive relationship that exists among them and calling for an understanding of translation as at once a practice, a phenomenon and a philosophical concept.
