Ata news conference a few days ago, Wang Jingxiang, the new vice governor spoke to our reporter about the key projects in Sichuan.Wang said that Sichuan had dropped behind other provinces in the past few years in infrastructure construction, particularly in energy,transportation and raw materials.In the "8th Five-Year Plan" period, the province focused on the construction of 91projects with the total capital investment of 99. 1 billion yuan. Of these, forty five have been completed, while six hate been partially completed. The finished projects contributed the reinforcement of the local economy and the increment of the provincial GDP, indicating the great importance of the key projects in the local economic programs. In the "9th Five-Year Plan" period, key project construction will further strengthen the achievements already made in the previous period. The provincial authority plans to put forward,progressively, 100 major projects, for which capital has already allocated, and haxe these projects in operation by the end of 1998.
