For more than 2, 000 years,Mt. Emei and Giant Buddha at generations of Buddhist monks, pilgrims and scholars. The area is endowed with great natural beauty and abundant natural resertes, added to these is the brilliance of the Buddhist culture.Along the 60-kilometre long trail from the foot to the summit of Mt. Emei,are scattered more than 100 scenic spots.The best known are the cloud sea, sunrise, the holy light and the Buddhist glory,which are regarded as four miracles of the mountain. In addition, this mountain is covered with plants, some very ancient.There are over 3, 200 different kinds,belonging to 242 different species. Eightseven per cent of the mountain is covered by trees. There are also 2, 300 species of animals, some of which are under special rare animal protection law, notably the lesser panda.The giant Buddha at Leshan is the highest Maitreya statue in the world.Everywhere in the area around the statue are cultural relics. They are all the treasure of Buddhist culture and show the long continuing stream of history.
