川江纤夫生涯是平凡、艰险和神秘的合奏曲。旧时,江上一睁眼就能见着纤夫。所谓“纤夫”,是指那些专以帮人拉纤和划船为生的人。
Boat trackers earn their living by tracking and rowing boats in the river for others . Their life is ordinary but arduous. They live in small groups in the Yangtze River all the year round, drifting from place to place and braving all kinds of weather and danger all the time. Their living habits are also different from others. They eat five times a day, and have no rest seasons. They pay special attention to cooperation with each other, especially in the critical situation. Boat trackers have no wealth, living from hand to mouth and remaining alone. Relying on their spirit of defying any hardships and steady unity, the boat trackers keep their dignified status in the society.
