The Pingyao International Photography Festival Is on Track to Become the Oscar of Photography

During the 12 days the selected works of the Pingyao International Photography Festival were exhibited in the Working People’s Culture Palace and Peking University, some 15,000 viewers watched the exhibition. The influence of the four editions of the festival has been powerful in the hearts and minds of photographers and viewers. The exhibition found great resonance with students and faculty members and people from all walks of life have a high expectation for the continuous success of the festival. It is four editions since the Pingyao International Photography Festival opened in 2001. The successful holding of the festival has played an unique role in erecting a cultural exchange platform between the Chinese and foreign photographers, broadening Shanxi’s external interaction, raising the profile of Shanxi, building Shanxi into a culture-rich province, and boosting its resources-based economy. It also has gained a rich reservoir of experiences and opened up a new development road, a road characterized by multiculturism, commercialization, normalization and professionalism.
