Gunpowder Smokes over the Taihang Maintains Write Praises of Shanxi

今年是抗日战争暨世界反法西斯战争胜利60周年,中国人民抗日战争是世界反法西斯战争的重要组成部分,山西是中国共产党领导的八路军发动人民群众抗击日寇的主战场。抗战时期,山西人民为抗日战争胜利作出了巨大的牺牲和重要的贡献。60年过去了,亲历过那段峥嵘岁月的人越来越少,曾经的那些烽火岁月也越来越远。但国耻不能忘。

During the War of the Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the people of Shanxi made great sacrifice and contribution to the success of the Anti-Japanese War. Soon after launching the war, the Japanese aggressors made an immediate attempt to occupy Shanxi in order to control Northern China. The three backbone divisions of the Eighth Route Army in the Luliang and Taihang Mountains set up three Anti-Japanese bases: the Shanxi-Chahaer-Hebei Base; the Shanxi-Suiyuan Base; and the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan Base, calling on the Chinese people to plunge into an all-around anti-Japanese war to salvage the country. In Shanxi, they fought several high-profile battles, like the Battle of Pingxing Pass, the Battle of Xinkou, and the Battle of Hundred Regiments. And these battles and other military activities of the Headquarters of the Eighth Route Army, revolutionary leaders and heroes in Shanxi has left it a host of revolutionary pilgrimage sites, which are deemed as valuable resources for heritage tourism.
