The reconstruction of maxillary defects after maxillectomy is a challenging operation. Maxillectomy defects not only lead to facial deformities, but also affect swallowing, mastication, and speech function. At present, the classification methods of maxillary defects are various, but there is no gold standard method to guide the clinical treatment. The reconstruction methods mainly include autologous tissue reconstruction and prosthesis reconstruction. There was controversy about the choice of surgical method. The aim of the study was to review the progress in the reconstruction of maxillectomy defects.
