The Second Sex is a great work of philosophy on feminism in the contemporary era; even through being criticized, it is still a polemical book which advocates women＇s freedom, and inspires and enlightens women＇ s movements around the world. This paper reinterprets The Second Sex by focusing on Beauvoir＇s arguments and viewpoints of the concept of the otherness in its first volume： how can the otherness be established？ Beauvoir illustrates the connection between the woman and the man as the absolute otherness by adopting Hegel＇ s master-slave dialectics.
