This paper introduces the design concept of the landscape project of Duke University Kunshan campus (phase I). It is based on the concept of eco-design, which explores the cultural representation of ecology and low-carbon development from a contemporary regionalist perspective. The design firm Futurepolis focused on water resources on the site and incorporated the seasonal water level change characteristic of Jiang-Nan region into the design of open spaces in the campus, resulting in changing landscapes responsive to seasons and times. The design turns the entire campus into a system collecting, infiltrating, and recycling water. Such a dynamic landscape provides an example for the definition and implementation of the Sponge City practice at the micro- planning level.
