Chen Lemin's Way of Thinking and Insights in Investigating “Enlightenment”

陈乐民先生虽无系统的关于"启蒙"的学术专论,但已有很多精辟的识见。撮其要者有四:"启蒙"不是"运动","敢于"使用自己的理智就是启蒙;"启蒙"是欧洲几百年思想革命的高潮一幕;英国经验启迪了"启蒙";中国哲学启示欧洲"启蒙"之论纯属"错觉"。陈先生考察"启蒙"的治学态度、思想方法尤其值得学界珍视。只有持"科学"态度的、严谨的历史学本真追求,才能求得可信的历史认识。

Although Mr. Chen Lemin has no systematic academic monograph about ＂enlightenment＂, he has a lot of brilliant insights in this respect,among which the author quotes four main viewpoints . Firstly, ＂enlightenment＂ is not a ＂movement＂, to ＂dare to＂ follow one~ own senses of mind can be called enlightenment. Secondly,＂enlightenment＂ is the climax of hundreds of years ＇ ideological revolution in Europe. Thirdly,＂enlightenment＂ is inspired by British experience. Fourthly, the statement that Chinese philosophy inspires European ＂enlightenment＂ is totally an ＂illusion＂. Mr. Chen＇s serious attitude and strict method in his research on ＂enlightenment＂ should be valued by academic circles. Only with a scientific attitude and rigorous historical pursuit, can we obtain a credible historical cognition .
