文理并重、和谐发展的大学教育理念——约翰·穆勒高等教育思想述评

Educational Ideas of University Emphasizing Equally on both Arts and Science and Advocating Harmonious Development——A Review of John S Mill's Ideas of Higher Education

摘要 约翰·穆勒一生未接受过正规的学校教育,但他始终关注19世纪英国的教育,特别是高等教育的改革和发展。他阐发了文理并重、和谐发展的大学教育理念,这一颇具特色的高等教育思想对现代英国及欧洲高等教育的发展产生了深远影响。系统探讨和分析约翰·穆勒高等教育思想的有关问题,既有助于人们了解19世纪英国高等教育及其思想的真情实况,对当今我国大学正确处理人文教育与科学教育的关系也不乏借鉴价值。 John Stuart Mill,untrained by formal schooling,paid close attention to British education in 19^(th) century,especially to reform and development of higher education throughout his life.Emphasizing equally on both arts and science as well as advocating harmonious development,his distinctive ideas of higher education exerted a profound influence on advancement of modern higher education in Britain and even in Europe.Systematically discussing and analyzing the issues of Mill's ideas of higher education is not only conducive to provide a clear understanding of the real situation of practice and ideas in British higher education in 19^(th) century,but also beneficial to deal with relationship between humanity education and science education in Chinese universities today.
