Several Issues about Ancient “Mausoleum Temples”

南北朝、隋、宋、清等王朝的皇陵附近建有专门效力于皇陵佛教寺庙,本文将它们称为"陵寺"。不同时代"陵寺"的功能及其与陵墓的方位关系等都不尽相同,它们的共同点是都属于世俗的信仰行为,不载入国家礼制范畴的祀典。陵寺反映了皇室的宗教信仰,但两者并不是直接的对应关系,它们更体现出皇权对于宗教的利用态度。

Buddhist temples were built adjacent to ancient Chinese imperial mausoleum sometimes. The mausoleum temples of different periods have different functions, placement and relationship with mausoleum. Studies of mausoleum temples is helpful to probe into the connotation of ancient Chinese mausoleum system. Mausoleum temple reflects not only the religious beliefs of the imperial family, but also the religious attitude of imperial power.
