The discussion of how to design and compile nationalized and localized Chinese textbooks has become one of the major subjects in the field of teaching Chinese as a second language.On the basis of YCT Syllabus,this article has taken QIHANGas the object of the research,which is an elementary Chinese textbook compiled in Western Australia.The study has also made an investigation of the textbook through questionnaires,evaluation sheets and interviews.The compilation of QIHANG is a significant exploration of Australian localized Chinese textbooks,and provides a useful reference for other countries when developing localized textbooks for teaching Mandarin.
