The Deer Park is Norman Mailer＇s third novel,showing its criticism and sarcasm on hedonism and carnalism. The Deer Park has received both positive and negative reviews from literary critics and been reviewed from different perspectives. However,few scholars have analyzed it by referring to Lacanian theory,especially on the identity construction of Elena,the heroine of the novel. Lacanian theory can be applied to effectively interpret the identity construction of Elena and her failure. Some characters in the novel function as the Other who exert a significant influence on Elena＇s psychological growth and her identity construction.
